ABIT Ltd. is a privately owned company based in Varaždin, Croatia which has, from its founding (1993), specialized in developing banking information systems and providing IT support to banks and similar financial institutions. In addition, as a long term IBM Business Partner, ABIT has vast experience in delivery and maintenance of relational database IBM/Informix development tools. Abit is also a SYBASE Inc. business partner considering matters of Data Warehousing and Business Intelligence.
The key part of our business orientation, along with developing software solutions, is user counseling on strategy and changeability of information technologies. We also provide support in application of banking technologies, standards, documentation and system-analysis.
During many years of providing our services, which we have successfully delivered to over 15 banks (in Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina), ABIT has acquired extensive experience and knowledge on banking information system technologies.
Constant investment in research, evaluation and application of new technologies, especially concerning the training and education of our staff, have made ABIT a company that currently employs 30 highly qualified and specialized experts with substantial experience in developing and maintaining banking information systems in Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Since the year 2004, ABIT holds the certificate of quality ISO 9001:2000 which assesses the structure and organization of the company, as well as the procedures and activities within the company, and not only the product. Certification paid special attention to areas of business design, programming, deployment and maintenance of information systems, which in turn contributes to enhancing the overall security and system support. Since 2007, ABIT also uses Balanced Scorecard performance management tools to optimize organization and overall performance.

ABIT'S HISTORY
1993
ABIT is founded by a group of lead IT managers and DB specialists that worked together as a team managing the IT sector of the former Varaždinska Banka d.d. (later acquired by Zagrebačka Banka d.d.), taking with them the vast experience they have gathered over the years developing and supporting the banks information system. The company is cofounded by Alfatec ltd. of Zagreb with a share capital amounting to 35%.
1993 - 1997
ABIT develops, delivers and implements its banking software (later named BASSX) in over 10 financial institutions in Croatia (mainly banks).
1997
Three of the remaining original company founders from Varaždin buy out ABIT's share capital from Alfatec, which constitutes the company being owned solely by its employees. The company purchases its own business premises, where it is still operating today.
1997 - 1998
ABIT enters the market of Bosnia and Herzegovina, in Privredna Banka (Bihać) and Auro Banka (Vitez) where its integral banking information systems become fully operational.
1998 - 2000
The banking crisis in Croatia, some 20 financial institutions (mostly banks) end up in liquidation; as a direct result ABIT loses six of its bank customers. The company therefore intensifies its activities on the market of Bosnia and Herzegovina and gets recognized by two major banks, Postbank BH of Sarajevo and Tuzlanska Banka of Tuzla, which decide to implement ABIT’s IT solutions.
2000 - 2003
Two more Croatian banks (Partner banka Zagreb and Banka Kovanica, Varaždin) implement ABIT’s integral banking information system.
2004
ABIT implements and applies the quality system according to the international standard ISO 9001:2000.
2005
ABIT signed Partnership agreements with:
Sybase Inc. as a strategic partner for further development of Banking Business Intelligence solutions under Business Solutions Alliance program
Automated Workflow Pvt. (Silicon Plains Ltd.) as a strategic partner in providing Business Process Management solutions to Financial Institutions
Business Objects Co. as a strategic partner in Business Intelligence for Financial Institutions
Volksbank d.d. becomes a new user of ABIT's solutions - Credit Card Management
2006
HPB Stambena štedionica d.d., a croatian building society, becomes a new user of ABIT's solutions.
2007
ABIT acquires Jakopsoft ltd. of Varaždin, an IT company specialized in development and support of Business Process Management and Enterprise Content Management systems. Following the merger, ABIT undertakes a major internal reorganization, supervised and directed by a professional consulting company, where new departments are formed and the Balance Scorecard performance management system is implemented. ISO recertification is also done and a new quality system is introduced which reflects the needs of the “new” company.
2008
ABIT becomes an advanced level business partner of IBM.
Two new Croatian savings banks based in Zagreb, A štedna banka and Libertas štedna banka, choose ABIT’s integrated banking solution to start their business.
